History

Mike O’Donoghue meanwhile 42 years of age lives with his family in

Bruchmühlbach-Miesau, a small village in the south-west of Germany.

At the age of 14, he heard Irish Folk Music for the first time. At the time

it was a long-playing record of  “The Dubliners”. This music immediately

got to him, together with at that time top groups like “Abba”, “Smokie” and

      “Status Quo”.

At the age of 12 he had already started to play the guitar and passed his

enthusiasm on to four other classmates. So they founded the folkgroup

“O’Donoghue’s Inn” like the pub in Dublin, where the Dubliners first came

      together

      “O’Donoghue’s Inn” were:

        Alexander Höch:        guitar

        Caroline Lohagen:    fiddle, vocals

        Sabine Bachstätter:  flute

        Knut Dickten:            percussion, vocals

Uwe M. Schlüter:       vocals, guitar, banjo, tin whistle

They played at every school party and at some events in the

      neighborhood.

Uwe Schlüter,    Caroline Lohagen,   Alexander Höch,    Knut Dickten

After schooltime most bandmembers attended university. So “”O’Donoghue’s

Inn” was closed down due to a lack of members. During his time as a banker

in Hamm (Germany)  Mike  played Irish Folk Music as “Paddy’s Tune” with

Knut once again. After this he had a long break in his creative musical career.

After marrying his wife Christine, she brought back Mike’s love for music and

they performed together as a duet at events in the Hamburg area.

Among other things back then Mike wrote the musical

                                 “The Dwarfs Of Swabidu”

that had its successfully first performance in Hildesheim (Germany).

Together with his friend Roland Brauer they wrote a lot of German songs

but Mike also wrote some successful songs by himself ...

After the divorce from his wife it became quiet again. Mike and Roland wrote

some more songs, but the jobs and the partners of both left less time for

playing music. In 2001 this was changed by Andrea Schlüter, his second wife.

She supports Mike’s talent in every way she can. So from 2002 on

his music has led Mike to several parts of Germany where he has got big

success. He plays his music again under the name of “O’Donoghue”. But now

he uses his second name “Mike” as well.

So finally the name “Mike O’Donoghue” has become a trademark for Irish

      Music in Germany again.
